14.5x114 mm

The 14.5×114mm (.57 calibre) is a heavy machine gun and anti-materiel rifle cartridge used by the Soviet Union, the former Warsaw Pact, modern Russia, and other countries. It was originally developed for the PTRS and PTRD anti-tank rifles, and was later used as the basis for the KPV heavy machine gun that formed the basis of the ZPU series anti-aircraft guns that is also the main armament of the BTR series of armoured personnel carriers from the BTR-60 to the BTR-80 and for heavy anti- materiel sniper rifles.

14.5х114 mm cartridges with B-32 bullet are designed to engage light-armored targets, firing points and targets located behind small-size shelters at distance up to 1000 m as well as to fire at concentrated infantry troops and transport vehicles at distance up to 2000 m and engage low-flying airborne targets at altitude up to 2000 m. 14.5х114 mm cartridges with B-32 bullet pierce 20 mm armor at 20 degree angle at distance up to 300 m and set on fire B-70 petroleum located behind the obstacle. 14.5х114 mm cartridges with B-32 bullet are used with KPV, KPVT machine-guns as well as PTRS and PTRD anti- tank rifles. The bullet tip is painted black-and-red.
